The Regina Jazz Festival is a student-centered jazz education event designed by educators who wanted to create a more effective jazz education experience for students.
It is non-competitive and collaborative in nature, with a focus on engaging students with master educators and musicians in an educational and supportive environment. Participating students will be involved in performances, active listening, adjudicated workshops, instrumental master-classes and improvisation clinics where every student plays. Our focus is on developing a deeper understanding of the concepts required for authentic jazz performance. |
Performance
Each ensemble will have a 30 minute time slot to perform repertoire for an audience of their peers.
Bands will receive recorded feedback and a one hour post-performance adjudication clinic. |
Improvisation
Each student will learn a common jazz standard for the improvisation workshop.
Workshops will be leveled (Junior High and High School) and led by our adjudicators. All students will have the opportunity to improvise in the workshop. |
Instrumental Masterclass
Students will attend a sectional master class led by an experienced teacher on their instrument.
Rhythm Section students will attend a rhythm sectional that focuses on rhythm section concepts. |
